The Role
Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to work within the Mechanical Fabrication (MFAB) section of the Research Engineering (RE) branch. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing precision machining and mechanical fabrication technical expertise to stakeholders across DSTG and the wider Defence community.

They will be required to provide technical engineering expertise to perform Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and manual machining, fitting, welding (MIG and TIG), fabrication and sheet metal tasks. The mechanical technician will be required to demonstrate an ability to interpret drawings, specifications and standards. The successful applicant will collaborate with personnel or project teams across Defence and industry on engineering matters and will need to apply quality management principles and associated business procedures within an ISO 9001 accredited quality system.

Position duties:
Perform mechanical fabrication work on 3 Axis machines with advanced machining techniques under routine direction.
Contribute to the maintenance of professional, scientific and engineering standards.
Understand the application of scientific theory to technical work.
Demonstrate an ability to apply a range of standard techniques and analyse standard results.
